The Department of Vocational Education at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) plays a significant role within the university’s Faculty of Education. History of the Department of Vocational Education

Since its inception in 2012, the Department of Vocational Education at COOU has become a leader in its field. The department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and societal service, producing graduates who work in diverse sectors, including finance, management, entrepreneurship, and education.

The department was established with the guidance of Dr. A.S. Onuseleogu, the pioneering lecturer who laid the department’s academic and operational foundations. Her legacy continues to shape the department’s culture of excellence, discipline, and leadership.

Academic Programs

The Department of Vocational Education offers comprehensive academic programs that prepare students for careers in various vocational fields. The department is organized into three major programs approved by the University Senate:

  • Business Education (with specializations in Accounting, Marketing, and Office Technology and Management)
  • Agricultural Education
  • Home Economics Education

Admission Requirements and Procedures

Undergraduate Admission
  • UTME Applicants: Candidates must have credit passes in five relevant subjects, including English and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings.
  • O’Level Requirements: Applicants must have passed WASSCE, NECO, NABTEB, or GCE O’Level with five credits, including English and Mathematics, and three other subjects related to the chosen vocational program.

The department also offers postgraduate programs in various areas of vocational education. Each level has specific entry requirements to ensure that students meet the academic standards necessary for success.
